Dubai Investing $35 Billion in Expansion of World’s Largest Airport by a Mile

Unprecedented Expansion Plans Set to Make Dubai’s Al Maktoum International Airport the World’s Largest

Dubai’s Al Maktoum International Airport is set to undergo a massive expansion, with plans to build a $35 billion airport that will be the largest in the world by far. The emirate aims to accommodate 1 million residents in the planned city of Dubai South, which will be built around the airport.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, ruler of Dubai, has emphasized the importance of continuous development for future generations. He envisions Dubai as a global hub and urges that the airport should be at the forefront of this growth.

The expansion plans include the construction of five runways and 400 aircraft gates, consolidating all international flights from Dubai International Airport into one facility. The construction is estimated to cost AED 128 billion over the next 10 years.

The Al Maktoum International Airport was opened in 2010 with one terminal and two runways and serves as the focal point of Dubai South’s economic zone. Plans are in place to provide housing for 1 million residents and create 500,000 jobs across a 55-square-mile area. These expansion plans coincide with the recovery of air travel in Dubai to pre-pandemic levels, with 17.15 million international visitors in 2023.

Dubai South is a planned city that aims to accommodate one million residents by building an entire city around it, making it a hub for commerce and industry in the region.

The ambitious project aligns with Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s vision of making Dubai a global hub for trade and investment. The expansion plans will bring about significant changes in the way people travel, work and live in Dubai.

In conclusion, Dubai’s Al Maktoum International Airport is set to become one of the largest airports in the world, serving as a key element of Dubai’s future growth as it expands its capacity and becomes a gateway for businesses worldwide.
