Unleashing the Power of Healthcare Education: Meet Petra Clark-Dufner, the Inspiring Leader Behind UConn’s Urban Service Track Scholars Program

Petra Clark-Dufner, a dynamic and inspiring healthcare leader, has been shaping the field for nearly two decades through her work with UConn’s Urban Service Track Scholars Program (UST). Since its inception in 2007, the program has welcomed 17 cohorts of approximately 65 students each, representing various health care disciplines. Under her leadership, the program has become a beacon of accessible and high-quality healthcare for all individuals, regardless of their background or circumstances.

Clark-Dufner’s approach to teaching is unique and engaging. She leads students through a rigorous urban services bootcamp with a blend of humor, encouragement, and quick-fire questions. She challenges them to think critically and stay engaged, creating a stimulating learning environment that pushes them to make connections between their coursework and real-world applications. Through her guidance, students gain valuable insights into healthcare financing, cultural competency, advocacy, and health promotion.
