Health Ministry Calls for Immediate Ban on E-Cigarettes

The Battle for E-Cigarette Regulation: Will Strict Measures Prevail?

The Ministry of Health has proposed a ban on the production, sales, import, and advertising of electronic cigarettes and similar products to protect public health. The Ministry of Industry and Trade, on the other hand, had proposed pilot management of e-cigarettes to address illegal trade issues. However, Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan reiterated the need for stringent regulations to protect public health.

During an explanation session organized by the Social Committee, Minister Lan highlighted the dangers of e-cigarettes and the importance of consistent regulation. The proposal to legalize e-cigarettes was met with skepticism from other delegates who questioned its potential negative impacts on public health and the economy. Various concerns were raised about the addictive and carcinogenic nature of e-cigarettes, as well as their potential to lead to increased tobacco use among young people.

According to the Ministry of Health, e-cigarettes contain various chemicals and flavorings but do not fall under the definition of traditional tobacco products. Studies have shown an increase in e-cigarette use among young people, prompting calls for stricter regulations and a ban on their production and sale. The Ministry is working on amending existing laws to address these growing concerns surrounding e-cigarettes and their impact on public health.
