Teacher Appreciation Week Contest: How Victoria Hernandez is Changing Lives with STEM Education and Professional Development

Teachers Federal Credit Union is hosting its 4th Annual Teacher Appreciation Week Contest, with Victoria Hernandez, a sixth-grade general education and ENL science teacher at William Floyd Middle School, making it as one of the top six middle school level finalists out of 1,500 candidates. Ms. Hernandez has the opportunity to win a grant up to $2,500 for her classroom which will be used to build an interactive vertical garden using coding and technology.

Ms. Hernandez embodies the highest standards of teaching excellence and leadership in the state. She serves as the driving force behind the school’s Science Fiction Club, providing students with not only an outlet for their love of the genre but also fostering critical thinking, creativity, and a sense of community among its members. Additionally, Ms. Hernandez actively engages in professional development opportunities, constantly seeking ways to enhance her teaching methods, stay updated on educational trends, and collaborate with fellow educators to refine her craft.

The contest aims to honor outstanding educators at pre-k/elementary, middle school and high school levels who demonstrate their commitment to empowering students with the knowledge and power they will carry forever. Nine outstanding educators will be selected to win a share of $15,000 in grants!

Teachers Federal Credit Union believes that educators change the lives of millions of children every day by guiding them and making an impact that extends beyond the walls of a classroom. While we appreciate educators all year round Teacher Appreciation Week is a special time to honor those who demonstrate their commitment to empowering students with knowledge that they will carry forever. Voting ends at Friday night April 26th; winners will be announced on Monday May 6th at the beginning of Teacher Appreciation Week! Good luck Ms. Hernandez!
