Swede Armand Duplantis Breaks World Record Again at Xiamen Diamond League Meeting, Torrie Lewis Impresses in 200m Event.

In the first Diamond League meeting of the 2024 season, Armand Duplantis broke his own world record by clearing a 6.24-meter pole vault at Xiamen, China. This surpassed his previous record of 6.23 meters set in Eugene, Oregon in September. The Swede, who is both the Olympic and two-time world outdoor champion, celebrated his achievement with ease as he made his first outdoor appearance of the year.

This was the eighth time that Duplantis has broken the world record, cementing his position as a dominant force in pole vaulting. As he heads into his second Olympic Games in July and August, he is considered a clear favorite to defend his title.

Meanwhile, Australia’s Torrie Lewis made an impressive debut at the Diamond League by winning gold in the women’s 200m event with a personal best of 21.78 seconds. She beat strong American competitors like Sha’Carri Richardson and Gabby Thomas to take home victory in this closely contested race.

In addition to Lewis’s impressive performance, there were also standout performances from other female athletes at the meet. Marileidy Paulino won gold in the women’s 400m with a time of 50.08 seconds, while Natalia Kaczmarek finished second and Britton Wilson finished third. Jasmine Camacho-Quinn dominated the women’s 100m hurdles with an impressive win over her competitors.

Overall, the Diamond League season opener in Xiamen was filled with exciting moments and outstanding athletic performances from some of the world’s top athletes.
