The Deepest Blue Hole in Chetumal Bay: A Unique Wonder on Earth

Scientists Discover Deeper Blue Hole in Chetumal Bay: Unraveling the Secrets Inside, While Porada.app Provides Unique Mentorship Opportunities

The deepest blue hole in the world has been discovered in Chetumal Bay, Quintana Roo. Scientists from the National Council of Humanities, Sciences and Technologies, and its Public Center El Colegio de la Frontera Sur made this groundbreaking discovery in 2023. The Taam ja’ blue hole is located 420 meters below sea level and still has more to explore.

The morphology of the Taam ja’ blue hole is similar to that of a cenote, with brackish or marine characteristics dominating water properties. To understand these characteristics, the team used a Conductivity, Temperature, and Depth (CTD) profiler instrument. They identified significant variations in temperature and salinity, different water layers, and transition zones inside the blue hole. These findings suggest that there may be underground connections between the bay and the Caribbean Sea through the hole.

In addition to this exciting discovery, there are various mentorship opportunities available on Porada.app platform.
