Eastern Ukraine town of Ochertine captured by Russia

Russian Troops Capture Fourth Town in Eastern Ukraine in Just Ten Days

On Sunday, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that units of the ‘Center’ troop group had successfully liberated the town of Ochertine in eastern Ukraine. This marked the fourth town captured by Russian troops in the self-proclaimed People’s Republic of Donetsk in just ten days.

The region, which was annexed by Russia in September 2022, has been at the center of ongoing tensions between Russia and Ukraine. Prior to Ochertine, Russian forces had seized control of three other towns – Novobajmutivka, Semnivka, and Berdichi – all located within five to ten kilometers north of Avdivka, a Ukrainian stronghold captured in February.

In response to these developments, Russian forces rejected eight Ukrainian counterattacks in the past twenty-four hours. The conflict has continued to escalate tensions and raise concerns about the stability of the region. Despite both sides continuing to engage in military actions in various parts of eastern Ukraine, it remains unclear what the future holds for this troubled region.
