Revolutionary Drill Hole ‘Okoruso’ Opens New Chapter in Mars Exploration
The latest drill hole on Mars, named “Okoruso,” was created on Sol 1332. The drilling activities on Sol 1332 went smoothly, so the focus of the weekend plan is to sieve the sample and deliver it to CheMin for analysis. On the second sol, ChemCam and Mastcam observations will be conducted on the targets “Natas” and “Langental” to explore the variations in chemistry within the stratigraphy. The third sol will start with a morning science block consisting of ChemCam, Navcam, and Mastcam observations to monitor the composition and opacity of the atmosphere while searching for clouds. In the afternoon, ChemCam will be used to study the drill tailings and a freshly broken rock, followed by repeated atmospheric observations.
