Newlab is transforming the technology and entrepreneurial scene in Detroit.

Revitalizing Detroit: How Newlab at Michigan Central is Driving Innovation in the Motor City

In April 2023, Newlab at Michigan Central officially opened its doors in Detroit’s Corktown neighborhood, just a stone’s throw away from the Ford train station. This innovative space is a shining example of the city’s transformation and revitalization story.

Originally constructed from the remains of a crumbling book depository, Newlab now houses 90 startups operating in various industries, ranging from EV off-road vehicles to smart wheels designed for warehouse logistics. The facility aims to help entrepreneurs reduce the development cycle time for their products, according to CEO Cameron Lawrence.

One Detroit Producer Will Glover recently sat down with Lawrence to discuss the efforts being made to establish Detroit as a hub for technology and innovation. Through initiatives like Newlab, the city is working towards becoming a destination for cutting-edge advancements in various fields.
