Spain hits record high of over 21 million Social Security affiliates

Record-Breaking Job Creation and Decline in Unemployment: An Insight into the April Labor Market

April witnessed unprecedented results in the labor market, with 200,000 new jobs created and a record number of average Social Security affiliates exceeding 21 million. The surge in job creation led to a significant decline in unemployment, with 60,500 people leaving the ranks of the unemployed. This resulted in a total of 2,666,500 unemployed individuals – the lowest figure in 16 years.

The hospitality sector played a significant role in this growth, creating almost half of the new jobs. Administrative services and commerce also contributed significantly to the job creation surge. Additionally, there was a record high number of permanent contracts registered, with around 14 million people involved.

Geographically, regions such as the Balearic Islands, Andalusia, and Catalonia experienced the most job creation, accounting for over two-thirds of new positions. Comparing these results to those from a year ago reveals an even more impressive growth rate – almost half a million more workers than in the previous year. Unemployment also saw a notable decline during this period, particularly benefiting women. The overall number of unemployment benefits reached its lowest level in over a decade.

Despite Easter falling in March instead of April, the labor market showed remarkable strength throughout April. Furthermore
