Public Health Celebrates New Home with Community Leadership and Gratitude

On April 6, 2024, the School of Public Health at the University celebrated its new home in the renovated Edna S. Brigham Building with joy and pride. The occasion began with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and featured opening remarks from University leadership.

President Sandoval used the opportunity to highlight the School’s impact within the community, emphasizing its role in preparing students for leadership positions in public health not just in Nevada but beyond. He commended the School for its work in policy implementation, systemic change, health program development and evaluation, wide-scale service provision, and innovative research.

Dean Akpinar-Elci took her turn to speak at the event, reflecting on the journey that led to the opening of the new building and expressing her gratitude for the collaborative effort that made it possible. She emphasized that this celebration was not just about bricks and walls but about the people who had worked tirelessly to bring their shared vision to life.

She praised those who went above and beyond to create a space where passion could meet purpose and reminded everyone of how successful this project was a result of collective efforts from all involved. This day served as a reminder of School’s commitment to excellence and dedication to advancing public health both locally and globally.
