Oracle relocates headquarters to Nashville

Oracle’s Health Care Focus: Expanding in Nashville with a $1.2 Billion Campus

Recently, Larry Ellison, the founder of Oracle, announced that the health care industry is at the center of his company’s concerns. The sudden announcement seemed to catch everyone off guard, with Ellison later admitting to Senator Bill Frist that he might have said it too hastily. Despite this, shares of Oracle remained relatively unchanged in extended trading following the announcement.

In 2020, Oracle moved its headquarters from Silicon Valley to Austin, Texas as part of its efforts to expand its presence in the health care sector. This move was followed by significant investments in health care, including Oracle’s acquisition of Cerner for $28 billion. Although Oracle is relatively new to the health care industry, Ellison believes that the company has a moral obligation to address its challenges.

Nashville has long been a prominent player in health care and boasts a network of health systems, startups and investment firms. The city’s reputation as a health care hub dates back to 1968 when HCA Healthcare was founded, which attracted many healthcare professionals and organizations to the area. In recent years, Oracle has been developing a $1.2 billion campus in Nashville and Ellison expressed excitement about establishing a strong presence in the city and called it “the center of Oracle’s future.” Despite this significant announcement, Oracle did not provide immediate comments in response to CNBC’s request for more information.
