Nouria Energy: Balancing Data and Culture in the Convenience Channel
Nouria Energy, a Worcester, Mass.-based convenience store chain with approximately 170 c-stores, is being inducted into the 2024 Conexxus Hall of Fame. During his speech at the Conexxus 2023 Road Trip, Nouria Energy’s CEO discussed the shift in the convenience channel, noting that Gen Z customers prefer convenience brought to them rather than going into stores. He also emphasized the importance of data awareness and effective utilization of data to avoid wasting resources.
Nouria Energy is currently working on becoming more data-driven but faces challenges in understanding how to effectively use the data. The biggest obstacle to data awareness, according to Nouria Energy’s CEO, is cultural. Employees have not been accustomed to interpreting data before, and this can make it difficult for the company to fully utilize its data potential.
During his speech at the Conexxus 2023 Road Trip, Nouria Energy’s CEO highlighted various technologies that caught his attention, including artificial intelligence, computer vision, consumer and retail media networks, and electric vehicles. He also discussed some of the challenges associated with implementing new technologies in a convenience store setting. For example, Nouria Energy is exploring alternative POS systems and considering cloud-based solutions to overcome time constraints for new features. However, Nouria Energy’s CEO raised concerns about the lack of control over security with cloud-based solutions.
As part of its marketing efforts, Nouria Energy is seeking more data to engage with younger consumers. However, Nouria Energy’s CEO pointed out that there is an increased risk associated with collecting and protecting sensitive customer information. In order to successfully navigate these risks and effectively utilize its data resources, Nouria Energy will need to continue investing in both technology and culture change initiatives within its organization.
