On July 20, 2024, the International Chess Federation (FIDE) plans to break the Guinness World Record for the most chess games played in 24 hours. From beginners to grandmasters, participants can join in the celebration from anywhere in the world, whether online or offline.

To participate in this historic event, individuals must play at least one 5-minute chess game on platforms like chess.com or lichess.com during the allotted 24-hour time frame. Those who prefer offline participation can find the nearest event listed on the FIDE website to take part in the Guinness World Record attempt.

Event organizers interested in hosting their own tournament can visit the FIDE website for details on eligibility criteria. Registration will be open until July 15, 2024, and results confirming the number of games played must be submitted after the attempt.

Registration for tournaments participating in the Guinness World Record attempt will begin in May. For more information and updates, visit the official FIDE Guinness World Record attempt page.
