Northeastern University Mourns the Loss of Third-Year Student Griffin Loranger: A Tribute to His Academic and Personal Achievements

Elizabeth Mynatt, Dean of Northeastern University’s Khoury College of Computer Sciences, issued an email to students on the Boston campus expressing the community’s deep sorrow over the passing of Griffin Loranger, a third-year student hailing from Maine. Loranger was working towards a combined degree in computer science and cognitive psychology at Northeastern and had been actively involved in research projects and global opportunities during his time at the university.

Loranger particularly enjoyed conducting research at the College of Science’s Kwon Research Lab for Low Vision and Brain Research, showcasing his love for research. Additionally, he had a keen interest in history, which he explored through a Dialogue of Civilizations program in London. Beyond his academic pursuits, Loranger also held an IT Projects Intern position at Sappi, a paper and forest product manufacturing company, where he demonstrated his technical skills and computing talents.

In addition to his work and studies, Loranger was actively involved in various extracurricular activities. He worked as a camera operator for Division I sporting events with Northeastern’s Athletic Department, was a member of the NUTV video production club, and enjoyed playing mahjong with fellow students. Friends who posted on the online obituary site remembered Loranger as a vibrant and humorous individual who brought joy and laughter to those around him, especially during his involvement with NUTV. Confidential counseling services are being offered to Northeastern students and staff who may be struggling to cope with the loss of Loranger through University Health and Counseling Services, the Center for Spirituality, Dialogue, and Service, and WeCare.
