Metsä Board invests EUR 60 million in Simpele folding carton machine renovation as part of larger sustainability program

Metsä Board, a company within the Metsä Group, has announced an investment of approximately EUR 60 million in the renovation of its folding carton machine located in Simpele as part of a larger investment program. The investment will commence immediately and is expected to be completed in the second half of 2025.

The decision to invest in the renovation of the folding board machine in Simpele is part of a larger investment program announced on March 21 to modernize the cardboard factory. This program will be implemented in stages over the next ten years, with the goal of enhancing production capabilities and sustainability.

Following the renovation, the factory’s production capacity will increase by about 10,000 tons, bringing the annual production capacity of Simpele folding carton to approximately 310,000 tons. This improvement will enable more efficient production while also reducing carbon emissions from fossil fuels used in manufacturing.

Metsä Board’s commitment to innovation and sustainability is reflected in this decision to invest in the future of cardboard production. With this investment, Metsä Board aims to improve both its operations and environmental impact by adopting new technologies and processes that are more sustainable and efficient.
