Congressman Cohen reveals $21.3 million in Department of Health and Human Services Grants

Memphis Community Receives $21 Million in Federal Grants for Head Start Programs

Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) has announced that three organizations in Memphis, Tennessee have been awarded grants totaling $21,309,797 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The Memphis Health Center Inc., Porter-Leath, and the Shelby County Board of Education will each receive funding to support their programs.

In a statement, Congressman Cohen expressed his satisfaction with the significant investment from the federal government, particularly highlighting the funding for Head Start programs. These programs play a crucial role in helping young students prepare for school and navigate the complexities of the world. The $14,553,699 grant awarded to the Shelby County Board of Education will support its Head Start programs, while Porter-Leath will receive $1,385,603 to operate its Head Start programs. Memphis Health Center will receive $5,370,495 to support its programs.

Congressman Cohen stated that he is proud to see this funding go towards organizations that are dedicated to improving the lives of children and families in Memphis. He believes that these programs will have a positive impact on the community and help set young people on a path towards success.
