Four-Athlete Team Sets New World Record for Distance Medley Relay at Oregon Relays

On Friday (19) in Eugene, USA, a group of four athletes achieved a world record for the distance medley relay at the Oregon Relays. Brannon Kidder, Brandon Miller, Isaiah Harris, and Henry Wynne worked together to complete the race in a time of 9:14.58*, beating the previous record set by USA’s Kyle Merber, Brycen Spratling, Brandon Johnson, and Ben Blankenship at the 2015 World Athletics Relays in The Bahamas.

The distance medley relay consists of legs of 1200m, 400m, 800m, and 1600m. Kidder began the race with a time of 2:49.60 for his 1200m leg followed by Miller who ran 46.60 for the 400m leg. Harris then took over and ran an impressive time of 1:45.75 for the 800m leg before passing the baton to Wynne who finished off the final leg with a time of 3:52.64. Their collective effort resulted in breaking the world record set by their American teammates three years ago.

The next World Athletics Relays will be held in Nassau on May 4-5th where their new world record will undergo standard ratification before being officially confirmed.
