Metro Health inspectors ensure Fiesta food vendors adhere to safety regulations

Keeping Your Fiesta Feast Safe: A Closer Look at San Antonio’s Food Safety Inspections

San Antonio is buzzing with excitement as the Fiesta festivities return. Food and drinks are at the center of the celebrations, but it’s essential to be cautious about what you consume. A KSAT crew recently followed San Antonio Metropolitan Health District inspectors to observe how they ensure food safety during Fiesta.

Deborah Liu, a Metro Health environmental health officer, emphasized that consuming unsafe food can lead to serious consequences. Sometimes, food may not be cooked correctly, resulting in foodborne illnesses that may not manifest until the next day. To prevent this, inspectors constantly monitor vendors at every Fiesta event.

Inspectors check various aspects of food safety, including ensuring that food is at the correct temperature, vendors follow proper sanitation practices and have appropriate protective gear like gloves, hats or hairnets. If a vendor violates food safety regulations, they are given an opportunity to correct the issue; otherwise, they could lose their permit to operate and get shut down.

It’s crucial for attendees to report any concerns regarding food safety immediately by calling 311. By being vigilant and prioritizing hygiene and safety, everyone can enjoy Fiesta without the risk of getting sick. For more information on Fiesta events and updates visit KSAT.com.

Fiesta is a time for celebration and enjoyment but taking necessary precautions should always be prioritized to ensure that everyone has a healthy experience while having fun.
