Wong Makes History as Iolani’s First State Girls Golf Champion

Iolani Golfer Jasmine Wong Earns First-Ever Individual Championship in the David S. Ishii/HHSAA Girls Golf Championships

Jasmine Wong of Iolani School in Hawaii won the individual championship in the David S. Ishii/HHSAA girls golf championships, becoming the first player from her school to do so. She shot an even par 72 to secure the win, beating out Jessica Lee from Punahou by a single stroke at the Kaneohe Klipper Golf Course. The Raiders had previously won a team title in 2012 but had never produced an individual champion before Wong’s victory.

Wong, a senior heading off to Gonzaga in the fall, finished with a 74-72-146 overall score to claim the championship. She signed with the Bulldogs after winning several HSJGA titles and ILH championships in 2024 and 2023. Wong faced tough competition from five other players who shot par or better on the final day of the tournament.

Despite trailing by two shots going into the 18th hole, Wong held on to win even after making a bogey on the par-3 final hole. Nicole Ikeda of Punahou had the best score of the tournament with a 2-under 70, but no player finished in red on Day One. Punahou went on to win their 13th girls team title with a combined score of 13-over 445 over two days.

The team improved by 21 strokes from Day One to Day Two and secured a dominant victory over runner-up Mililani, who finished second with a score of 465, followed by Moanalua in third with a 478. Iolani placed fifth overall, led by Wong’s performance
