Hockey Canada Readies for International Success with Steve Ott on Coaching Staff

Hockey Canada is thrilled to announce that Steve Ott, Assistant Coach for the Blues, will be joining the coaching staff for Team Canada at the 2024 IIHF World Championship. The team’s head coach will be Andre Tourigny, with Dean Evason and Jay Woodcroft serving as assistants. The tournament will take place from May 10-26 in Prague and Ostrava, Czechia.

Steve Ott, a native of Summerside, PEI, is making his international coaching debut at this upcoming championship. He has been an assistant coach with the Blues for seven seasons, helping the team secure four playoff appearances and win the 2019 Stanley Cup Championship. During his NHL career, Ott played for multiple teams including the Blues, Detroit Red Wings, Dallas Stars, Buffalo Sabres, and Montréal Canadiens.

Ott has won several medals on the international stage. He earned bronze at the 2001 IIHF World Junior Championship and silver at the 2002 tournament. He also represented Canada at the 2010 IIHF World Championship. With his experience as both a player and coach, Steve Ott will bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to Team Canada at this upcoming World Championship.

The coaching staff’s experience in hockey is vast, with Tourigny having coached multiple levels of hockey in Canada and internationally. Evason has served as an assistant coach with Team Canada at various levels of competition before taking over as head coach of Team Finland in KHL during the 2018-19 season. Woodcroft has previously served as an assistant coach with Team Canada at various levels of competition before being named head coach of Team Calgary Flames in NHL during the 2017-18 season.

With such an experienced coaching staff and talented players on their roster, Hockey Canada is confident that they will have what it takes to compete for gold at this year’s IIHF World Championship.
