Evergreen State College Divests from Human Rights Violators: Inside the Student-Led Movement for Gaza

The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington has announced its decision to divest from companies that profit from human rights violations in Palestinian territories. This move sets the college apart as one of the few schools to respond to student protests against Israel’s actions in Gaza.

This week on Intercepted, a special episode focuses on the student movement advocating for Gaza. Politics reporter Prem Thakker from The Intercept discusses the campus protests and the students’ demands for institutions to sever financial connections with Israel and weapons manufacturers. Gillian Goodman, a freelance writer and journalism graduate student at Columbia University, shares her experience at the protest encampment at Columbia. This demonstration inspired similar events nationwide, but was forcibly dismantled by the police.
