Colts and Irsay to Start Mental Health Awareness Month Kick Off

Colts Host Unique “Under the Surface” Event to Raise Awareness about Mental Health in Sports”.

Last week, the Indianapolis Colts and other organizations hosted 150 local high school students at Colts headquarters for a half-day event called “Under The Surface.” This event aimed to educate students about mental health and its intersection with sports. Special guests included Olympic gold medalist Lilly King, U.S. swimmer Ashley Twichell, Colts Pro Bowl cornerback Kenny Moore II, and Colts Vice Chair & Owner Kalen Jackson. The students, representing 11 area high schools, were involved in Bring Change to Mind (BC2M), a national organization with chapters in Indiana schools that aim to end the stigma surrounding mental illnesses.

During the event, students participated in an activity fair and a panel discussion featuring successful athletes and professionals in the field of mental health. It was a unique opportunity for these students to learn about mental health and its impact on sports while interacting with professionals who have overcome their own struggles with mental illnesses.

The conversation about mental health is being brought to the forefront thanks to the support of organizations like the Indianapolis Colts and USA Swimming. The stigma surrounding mental illness is being challenged as more people come forward to share their stories and seek help.
