Argentine soccer legend Cesar Luis Menotti, the coach who led his country to victory in the 1978 World Cup, has passed away at the age of 85. He was 69 when he passed away.

Menotti, a former striker, played for several clubs during his playing days and won multiple titles with Santos in Brazil. He later transitioned into coaching and had an illustrious career that spanned over three decades. During his career, he coached teams in various countries such as Italy, Mexico, Uruguay, and Argentina.

One of Menotti’s most significant achievements as a coach was winning two trophies with Barcelona in a two-season stint. However, his tenure with the national team was marked by controversy surrounding his decision not to include a young Diego Maradona in the squad for the 1978 World Cup.
