17 Outstanding Sports Scholars Recognized for their Excellence at the University of Cincinnati
The Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Awards, presented by Diverse: Issues in Higher Education, have recognized 17 exceptional University of Cincinnati student-athletes for their outstanding academic performance, athletic ability, community service, and leadership roles. Eleven of the honorees are women’s student-athletes, with basketball and soccer leading the way with three each.
The awards program celebrates students of color who excel both on the field and in the classroom. Inspired by tennis legend Arthur Ashe Jr.’s commitment to education and his love for tennis, U.S. colleges and universities are invited to participate in this annual awards program by nominating their outstanding sports scholars.
The full list of honorees can be found on the university’s website, showcasing some of the outstanding student-athletes who received the award include Jordan Young and Ken Willis from football, Viktor Lakhin from men’s basketball, Dani Mlkvy from lacrosse, and Mia Hensley from women’s swimming and diving among others.
Each of these recipients embodies the values of the Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Awards through their dedication to their sport, academic studies, community service, and leadership roles. Their achievements reflect not only their individual talents but also their contributions to their teams and communities at large.
