Waha Oil awards Zulal Water Technology contract for 900m³ drinking water treatment plant

Zulal Water Technology Takes on Highly Specialized Drinking Water Treatment Plant Project in Libya

Zulal Water Technology (ZWT) has recently won an Engineering, Procurement, Installation & Commissioning (EPIC) contract by Libya’s Waha Oil Company (WOC) to build a drinking water treatment plant at Dahra Oil Field. The plant will have a design capacity of 900m³/day and an operational capacity of 600m³/day.

The project is highly specialized as the water at Dahra Field is particularly challenging to treat due to high salinity levels (TDS > 21000ppm) comparable to sea water, as well as high levels of H2S and iron. This makes the project highly specialized and requires significant technical expertise.

Waha identified the urgent need for a new water treatment plant at their Dahra field after realizing that they currently do not have one in place. The new plant will be in line with five previous RO water plants manufactured by Lenntech and completed by ZWT at various WOC sites. Iftikhar ul Haq, Director of ZWT, emphasized the difficulty of designing a suitable plant for the unique challenges of Dahra well-water but expressed confidence in their team’s ability to provide an optimal solution.

ZWT has over 35 years of experience in completing over 100 water treatment projects in Libya, showcasing their expertise in the field. The company underwent a competitive procurement process and detailed technical evaluation before being awarded the contract on a full turnkey basis. The project will include pre-treatment, H2S degassing, iron and colloids removal, RO desalination, post-treatment, and the supply of dosing chemicals.
