Kris Kim, 16-year-old newcomer stuns golf world by making cut in PGA Tour debut

Young Phenom Kris Kim: Making Waves on the PGA Tour at Age 16

Kris Kim made headlines with his impressive performance on his PGA Tour debut, becoming the youngest player to make the cut on tour in nine years and the youngest ever at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson. The 16-year-old amateur’s scores of three-under-68 and four-under-67 placed him in contention at the tournament in McKinney, Texas.

Despite admitting to feeling nervous on the 18th hole when he had to make a birdie putt to secure his spot in the cut, Kim displayed a strong game and a mature approach that belied his age. His calm attitude and love for the game shone through as he expressed his joy at making the cut and his eagerness to play in the following rounds.

Kim’s mother, Ji-Hyun Suh, who is a former professional golfer, introduced him to the sport at a young age. Inspired by her, Kim developed a passion for golf and has already achieved notable success in his amateur career by winning several championships last year. Under her guidance as his swing coach, Kim has honed his skills and shown remarkable talent on the golf course.

As he now competes against seasoned professionals on the PGA Tour, Kim finds himself in 36th place, trailing leader Jake Knapp by seven strokes. Yet, his performance has earned him respect and admiration from fellow competitors, fans, and the golfing community. The absence of Jordan Spieth, whose record Kim surpassed, underscores the significance of his achievement as a talented young player rising in the ranks of competitive golf.
