Wintry Weather Hits Bavaria: Sleet Causes Accidents on Autobahn 9 Near Ingolstadt

On Thursday, the German Weather Service (DWD) predicts that wintry weather will hit parts of Bavaria, with snow and slippery conditions expected in some regions. In contrast, thunderstorms and heavy rain are forecasted in other areas. The cool sea air from the north is bringing these wintry conditions.

As a result of the wintry weather, the Alps are expected to receive five to ten centimeters of fresh snow above 1000 meters. The rest of Bavaria is expected to see some relaxation in weather conditions on Friday night, with slippery conditions and temperatures between minus two and plus four degrees. Rain is expected to spread from the northwest during the day, with the snowfall limit at 600 to 800 meters.

Saturday night brings wet conditions, with snow and sleet expected in the mountains and higher lowlands. The weekend will continue to be changeable and cool, with a mix of snow, slippery conditions, thunderstorms, prolonged rain, and strong winds predicted. On Thursday night, sleet led to four accidents on Autobahn 9 near Ingolstadt, with drivers losing control of their vehicles due to improper speed. Fortunately, no injuries were reported; however, property damage is estimated at around 60,000 euros.

In summary, wintry weather is expected in parts of Bavaria on Thursday and Friday night, while other regions will experience relaxation in weather conditions. Sleet led to accidents on Autobahn 9 near Ingolstadt on Thursday night due to improper speed by drivers who lost control of their vehicles.
