Schafer from VCSU emerges victorious at trap shoot state championship

VCSU Trap Club Takes Home 1st Place in North Dakota State Collegiate Trap Shoot

On April 27, the Valley City State University (VCSU) Trap Club participated in the North Dakota State Collegiate Trap Shoot. Kaden Schafer, a freshman majoring in Fisheries and Wildlife Sciences, won 1st Place Male in Singles Trap with a score of 93 out of 100. VCSU’s top shooters for the day included Schafer, Logan Heen, Brooke Gaudry, Grant Larson, and Derek Jacobs.

The event was exciting for club advisor and professor Dr. Nick Galt who praised the competitiveness of the sport. He expressed his excitement about competing against other collegiate teams in the region and mentioned that VCSU plans to introduce an intercollegiate Shooting Sports team in the upcoming fall season.

Despite windy conditions, Schafer was pleased with his performance and emphasized the mutual respect among competitors, especially during intense shoot-offs. Those interested in learning more about the VCSU Trap Club or the new Shooting Sports team can reach out to Dr. Galt at nicholas.galt@vcsu.edu or by calling 701-845-7459.
