Freiburger Recognized in Business Journal’s Women of Influence Event

UWM Dean Tina Freiburger Recognized as a Milwaukee Business Journal Women of Influence for her Work in Improving Community Engagement and Addressing Criminal Justice Disparities

Tina Freiburger, the dean of the College of Community Engagement and Professions, has been recognized as one of the winners of the Milwaukee Business Journal’s 2024 Women of Influence award. This prestigious list highlights business and community leaders from southeastern Wisconsin who are dedicated to improving the quality of life in the Milwaukee area.

Prior to her current role, Freiburger served as the dean of the Helen Bader School of Social Welfare since joining UWM in 2007. She established the College of Community Engagement and Professions in 2023, which encompasses three schools: Helen Bader School of Social Welfare, School of Education, and School of Information Studies. Her research focuses primarily on gender and racial disparities within the criminal justice system.

Freiburger has authored numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals, secured significant external grants, and written or edited four books. She also serves on the editorial boards of academic journals such as Youth Violence and Juvenile Justice, Race and Justice: An International Journal, and Journal of Crime and Justice.

This year, the Milwaukee Business Journal received approximately 175 nominations for the Women of Influence accolade, the highest number in several years. The winners will be celebrated in a special section of the June 7 issue and at an awards event on June 5 at the Baird Center in downtown Milwaukee.
