The Gulf Visa: Creating a Unified Tourist Itinerary for Visitors in the Region

Unified Gulf Tourist Visa Set to Boost GCC Economy, Promote Diversity and Enhance Tourism Experiences

The Gulf tourism sector has been a key contributor to the region’s economy, with a total GDP contribution of $109 billion in 2021. The Ministry of Economy recently organized a dialogue session at the Arabian Travel Market 2024 exhibition in Dubai to discuss strategies needed to drive growth in this sector and its vital role in the region’s economies.

One key initiative highlighted during the session was the activation of a unified tourist visa, which aims to streamline travel between GCC countries and showcase diverse tourism offerings. This initiative is expected to increase tourist spending, enhance visitor experiences, and position the GCC as a premier destination for travelers worldwide.

The unified Gulf tourist visa was approved during the 44th Gulf Summit in December 2023 and is expected to have a significant impact on tourism movements within the GCC. Additionally, educational programs were explored as a means of preparing skilled professionals for the sector, enhancing cooperation among GCC countries for a richer tourist experience.

Minister Bin Touq emphasized the significant contribution of tourism to the UAE’s economy, with a GDP share of 11.7% in 2023 and an expected increase to 12% in 2024. The theme for this year’s session was “Empowering Innovation: Developing the Travel Sector Through Entrepreneurship,” featuring industry leaders and experts in the travel and tourism sector.

In conclusion, collaboration and innovation are crucial for driving sustainable growth in the Gulf tourism sector. With projected growth in hotel establishments and visitor spending, it is clear that this sector will continue to play an essential role in job creation and infrastructure development throughout
