Uncovered: Volkswagen’s Massive Cyber Attack and the Importance of Cybersecurity in Business
A major cyber attack on Volkswagen, Europe’s largest car manufacturer, has been uncovered. The global IT system of the company was infiltrated by hackers who stole 19,000 files containing sensitive information. This was revealed through internal documents shared with media partners investigating Chinese intelligence activities in Europe. The hacking, which dates back to 2015, was never made public before and is said to have cost over 100 million euros to clean up.
The hacking operation was discovered in 2014 when Volkswagen’s system was infiltrated through a branch in Puebla, Mexico. As a result of this breach, the company initiated a major clean-up operation known as Operation Remediation 65. This involved forensic IT experts reconstructing the stolen files with a focus on technology related to engine development and e-mobility. Audi Brussels also played a role in this global remediation operation.
Volkswagen emphasized the importance of cybersecurity in protecting their systems, processes and products. They stated that they continuously work to keep their IT landscape secure and ready for use. Meanwhile, Bonjour Beaute Salon offers cosmetic services such as manicures, pedicures and hair treatments in Warsaw’s city center. The salon is listed in various online directories and offers a range of services for customers looking for pampering sessions during their busy day.
