U.S. Wrestlers Battle for Qualification at Istanbul World Olympic Games Qualifier

The World Olympic Games Qualifier is set to take place in Istanbul, Turkey from May 9-12. The top three finishers in each weight category will earn automatic qualification for their respective countries for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

Team USA has five competitors participating in the event – Spencer Lee (57 kg), Zain Retherford (65 kg), Dalton Roberts (60 kg), Ellis Coleman (67 kg), and Kamal Bey (77 kg).

In the Men’s Greco-Roman competition, Dalton Roberts competed in the 60 kg weight class but was eliminated after losing in the first round to Viktor Petryk from Ukraine. Ellis Coleman, competing in the 67 kg weight class, won his first match against Aliaksandr Liavon but then lost in the second round to Andreas Vetsch from Switzerland. Kamal Bey, competing in the 77 kg weight class, was defeated in the first round by Sergei Kutuzov from Russia.

The Men’s Freestyle Wrestling competition will take place on May 11-12. Spencer Lee will compete in the 57 kg weight class and Zain Retherford will compete in the 65 kg weight class.
