Triple Threat: Three Capital Region Men’s Lacrosse Teams Secure NCAA Tournament Spots
In the Capital Region, three men’s college lacrosse teams have secured spots in the postseason. The University at Albany men’s team has won the America East tournament championship and earned a spot in the NCAA Division I tournament. They will face off against Sacred Heart at home on Wednesday, having won four consecutive games and seven of their last nine. Meanwhile, both RPI and Union have also earned berths in the national tournament. RPI, with a record of 16-2, won the Liberty League tournament championship against RIT and secured an opening-round bye for their NCAA tournament opener. They will host either St. Mary’s (Md.) or Farmingdale State on Saturday. Only two teams, St. Lawrence and Amherst, have managed to defeat RPI this season. On the other hand, Union, with a record of 12-5, will host Stevenson (Md.) in a second-round tournament game on Saturday afternoon. A win will give Union the opportunity to play another home game as Schenectady is one of the hosts for the D-III tournament pods.
