A new plan to construct a “Sports Court” pavilion on the grounds of the Tower of the Americas in San Antonio is currently under review. The project, which is part of the planned Tower Park at Hemisfair, has been backed by philanthropic support for funding. This initiative comes after Hemisfair received feedback from the public about the need for more public recreation spaces on the west side of the tower.
The existing pond at the base of the structure, which has been in place since 1988, will be replaced by this new pavilion. While renderings of the project are not yet available, it will consist of a concrete slab primarily used as a basketball court and feature a 28-foot oval roof to provide shade for spectators. The space will also be available for community events and can be rented out for such purposes.
