Tiangong: China’s Game-Changing Robot Takes Center Stage at Beijing Launch

The innovative humanoid robot, Tiangong, was unveiled at the Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone on April 27. Developed by the Beijing Humanoid Robot Innovation Center Company, Tiangong is a game-changer in the robotics industry, standing at 1.63 meters tall and weighing 43 kilograms.

What sets Tiangong apart from other robots is its ability to operate solely through electric drive, making it an environmentally friendly option for households and industrial settings alike. With open-source code that allows for good development and adaptability, Tiangong can be applied to diverse applications in manufacturing, household services, and other settings based on market and user needs.

Equipped with vision perception sensors, high-precision inertial measurement devices, and 6-axis force sensors, Tiangong can process an astounding 550 trillion calculations per second. At its launch ceremony, the robot demonstrated its ability to navigate complex environments with ease while maintaining a stable running speed of 6 km/h.

The Beijing Economic-Technological Development Zone has become the center of the robot industry in Beijing due to its hosting of over 110 robot companies that create an industrial chain system with core components, complete machinery, and applications. The launch of Tiangong aligns with advancements in AI technology showcased at the Zhongguancun Forum 2024, highlighting China’s optimism surrounding its AI industry’s integration into everyday life to provide meaningful tools for humans.
