Three Children Seriously Ill with E. Coli Bacteria from Bang Bread Shop in Dong Nai

The Bang bread shop in Dong Nai, where three children fell seriously ill with E. coli bacteria, has been shut down after further tests revealed the presence of the same bacteria in their blood samples. Doctor Le Quang Trung, Director of Dong Nai Department of Health, provided this information on May 4, stating that they will have a report on whether the E. coli bacteria found in the food samples match those in the blood tests on May 6.

E. coli bacteria are commonly found in fresh produce, beef, fresh milk, juice, cheese, raw fruits and vegetables. Symptoms of E. coli infection include nausea, vomiting and watery or bloody diarrhea. Young children and the elderly are more susceptible to serious complications such as hemolytic uremic syndrome which can lead to kidney failure.

The three seriously ill children who tested positive for E. coli have been treated at Dong Nai Children’s Hospital since last week. Authorities have reported over 530 suspected cases of poisoning from consuming Bang bread since April 27th with a steady increase each day by around 80 cases. Most new patients have mild symptoms and are being treated at home while some are being closely monitored in hospitals due to their condition worsening rapidly.

Five critically ill children who were rushed to Dong Nai Children’s Hospital were transferred to other hospitals due to their severe condition; two remained on ventilators while one had a good prognosis and recovered quickly at Long Khanh Regional General Hospital; however another child experienced cardiac arrest during an emergency at Long Khanh Regional General Hospital while two others remain hospitalized but showing signs of improvement daily now according to doctors’ reports from different medical facilities across Vietnam and abroad respectively .

Investigations into the Bang bread shop revealed that owner bought ingredients and prepared the bread at home without proper health standards or safety procedures leading to this outbreak of E-coli poisoning that has caused panic among parents who bought products from this store before it was closed down temporarily by authorities until further notice for investigation purposes only
