Joint bid by US and Mexico for 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup withdrawn.

The US and Mexican Federations Withdraw Joint Bid for 2027 Women’s World Cup to Focus on Equal Investment in 2031

The US Soccer Federation and the Mexican Football Federation have withdrawn their joint bid to host the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Instead, they are focusing on a bid for the 2031 edition of the tournament with the goal of equal investment as the Men’s tournament.

As a result, only two bids remain to host the 2027 tournament – one from the Brazilian Football Confederation and a joint bid from the Royal Belgian Football Association, the Royal Netherlands Football Association, and the German Football Association. The winning bid will be announced at the 74th FIFA Congress in May.

The withdrawal of their bid was a difficult decision for both federations, but they believe it is in the best interest of women’s soccer. US Soccer President Cindy Parlow Cone stated that hosting a World Cup tournament is a huge undertaking and having additional time to prepare will maximize its impact globally. The shift in bidding will enable a record-breaking Women’s World Cup in 2031 to help grow and raise the level of the women’s game both domestically and internationally.

Despite this change in plans, there will still be a congested calendar of international soccer competition in North America in the coming years. The FIFA Club World Cup will take place in 2025, followed by co-hosting of FIFA Men’s World Cup by United States, Mexico, and Canada in 2026, and finally hosting Summer Olympics by United States in Los Angeles in 2028.
