The Colorado Rockies’ Harrowing Journey to Baseball Infamy

The Colorado Rockies were in a tough spot during their recent game, needing to avoid allowing five runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to stay out of the MLB history books. Unfortunately, they were unable to do so and now hold an unenviable record. The Rockies have now trailed for at least part of all 29 games played this season, breaking a tie with the 1910 St. Louis Browns for the longest such streak in history.

Despite a promising first-inning rally that scored five runs, the Rockies couldn’t hold on for the win. Relief pitcher Justin Lawrence struggled, allowing a flurry of hits and runs that resulted in the game being pushed to extra innings. Ultimately, a double and single in the tenth inning sealed the Rockies’ fate.

The loss still counts against them, despite technically never trailing during the game. With a current record of 7-22, the Rockies have struggled to maintain a lead in games. Their last game where they were either tied or ahead for the entire game was back in September 2023 against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Starting pitcher Elehuris Montero had a strong showing, pitching eight innings of shutout baseball but it wasn’t enough to prevent their downfall in extra innings.
