Teachers Inspiring Future Scientists: Tonia Kirby and Alison Zemba Share Exciting New Science Initiatives

Tonia Kirby, a science teacher at the RISE Academy in Rantoul, Illinois, is enthusiastic about providing her students with real-world experiences at their new alternative middle school. She believes that exposing students to science in action is a valuable learning opportunity. Kirby is looking forward to taking her students outside on Monday to observe the world around them.

Meanwhile, Alison Zemba, an eighth-grade science teacher at Pittsburgh Classical Academy, is excited about the ASU-NASA partnership and the opportunities it provides for her students. She has been using Infiniscope’s Kingdom of Peril lessons in her classroom and has found that her students are thoroughly enjoying them. Zemba notes that her students have had “aha” moments and have been able to use technology to learn about the Sun/Earth/Moon system.

Both teachers are dedicated to providing engaging and hands-on learning experiences for their students, and they are grateful for the resources and partnerships that support their efforts in the classroom.
