Sprinting Stars to Shine in Eugene at Wanda Diamond League Meeting
Eugene, Oregon will play host to some of the world’s best sprinters at the upcoming Prefontaine Classic. Sha’Carri Richardson and Christian Coleman, both champions in their respective events at last year’s World Championships, will be competing in the 100m event. Richardson, who won gold with a time of 10.65, will face tough competition from Julien Alfred from St Lucia and Marie-Josee Ta Lou from Ivory Coast. On the men’s side, Coleman will be joined by African record-holder Ferdinand Omanyala and world indoor 60m bronze medallist Ackeem Blake.
The men’s 200m event is also sure to be a highlight at the Prefontaine Classic. Erriyon Knighton, Letsile Tebogo, and Kenny Bednarek are all set to compete. Knighton has a personal best of 19.49 and won silver at last year’s World Championships. Tebogo, from Botswana, has had an impressive career so far, winning world U20 titles and claiming silver and bronze at the World Championships in Budapest. Bednarek is known for his versatility in sprinting events and earned Olympic silver in 2021 and world silver in 2022.
