Chief Technology Officer of South Dakota to Retire in the Current Year

South Dakota Bids Farewell to Veteran Chief Technology Officer Pat Snow as They Search for His Successor

South Dakota Chief Technology Officer Pat Snow is set to retire this year after more than twenty-five years of service in state government. In a recent LinkedIn post, the state’s Chief Information Officer, Jeff Clines, announced that the South Dakota Bureau of Information and Telecommunications will be hiring a new chief technology officer to replace Snow.

Clines highlighted the importance of finding an exceptional technology leader to take over from Snow, who has dedicated himself to the State of South Dakota for many years. Snow began his career in state government in 1996 as a network technologies manager and has held various positions since then, including state director of telecommunications. He even briefly served as the state’s CIO in April 2018 before Heather Perry took over and was later appointed as the interim CIO by Gov. Kristi Noem in 2019.

In an interview with StateScoop last November, Snow mentioned that South Dakota is focused on several significant IT modernization projects. These projects include the development of the state’s enterprise identity platform and the digitization of various services. Approximately 120 services have already been moved online, with plans to continue releasing new digital services on a quarterly basis in the future.
