Winners of the Colorado Springs Small Business Week Awards announced

Small Business Week Kicks Off with ‘The Year of A.I.’ and Recognizes Outstanding Entrepreneurs in Colorado Springs

The annual Small Business Week kicked off with the Small Business Bash at Boot Barn Hall and the announcement of the winners of the Small Business Week Awards. This year’s event is focused on “The Year of A.I. (Action & Innovation)”.

Von Kessel & Partners, a veteran-owned small business located in Colorado Springs, was named Veteran Small Business Owner of the Year. Founded by three retired Air Force Academy colonels – Omar Bradley, Joel Maynard, and Korky von Kessel – this indoor diving venue opened its doors in March 2022 at the Polaris Pointe retail center on the far north side of Colorado Springs.

Behr and Behr of Platinum Group Realtors were recognized as Family-Owned Small Business of the Year. Led by owner and founding partner Ed Behr, along with brokers Renee, Brandon, Leah, and Erik Behr, this team has been serving their community for years.

Jackie Lujan was named Young Entrepreneur of the Year for her learning-focused day care facility called The Lighthouse Early Care and Education. Zachary Barker was named Small Business Champion of the Year for his work in building entrepreneurship ecosystems as founder and CEO of Startup Support Center.

Sevan Stryker was awarded Small Business Person of the Year for her work as general manager at Bob Penkhus Motor Co. The week will continue through Friday with virtual workshops, a marketing panel, and more activities to celebrate small businesses across Colorado Springs area.
