Simone Biles Secures Fourth Laureus World Sports Award in Comeback Category, Ties Serena Williams for Second-Most Sportswoman of the Year Wins in History

In 2023, Simone Biles secured her fourth Laureus World Sports award in the Comeback category, marking her first win in that category. The American gymnast was recognized for her impressive return to competition at the world gymnastics championships in October, where she clinched four gold medals and one silver after a hiatus of nearly two years following the Tokyo Games. This victory puts Biles in a tie with Serena Williams for the second-most Sportswoman of the Year wins in history.

The field of nominees for Comeback of the Year was competitive, including notable athletes such as Sebastien Haller, Katarina Johnson-Thompson, Siya Kolisi, Jamal Murray, and Marketa Vondrousova. British skateboarder Sky Brown was the recipient of the award that year. Novak Djokovic received the Sportsman of the Year award for the fifth time, equalling Roger Federer’s record.

In addition to these categories, there were several other winners at the Laureus World Sports Awards. Spain’s women’s soccer team was named Team of the Year, while Diede de Groot from the Netherlands won Sportsperson of the Year with a Disability. Jude Bellingham from Britain was named Breakthrough of the Year, and Arisa Trew from Australia won Action Sportsperson of the Year.
