USA accuses Putin of using chemical weapons in the Ukraine war

Russian Chemical Warfare: New Sanctions Imposed by the United States on Moscow

Russian forces are using chemical warfare agents and tear gas to force Ukrainian troops from their positions, leading to new sanctions imposed by the United States against Moscow. These agents cause a burning sensation in the eyes, nose, and throat, along with shortness of breath and nausea. Chloropicrin, a banned warfare agent, is being used by Russia due to its heaviness. The Chemical Weapons Convention prohibits the use of tear gas for military purposes as soldiers cannot easily escape from its effects.

The American State Department has confirmed that Russia is using chloropicrin and tear gas on the front lines to dislodge Ukrainian forces from their positions. Chloropicrin is banned under the Convention on the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, which Russia is a signatory to. Tear gas, while not banned, is also being used in a military capacity by Russian troops. Ukrainian soldiers have reported an increase in tear gas attacks, with gas grenades being dropped from drones over their trenches.

In response to these actions, the USA has imposed sanctions against three state entities and four companies linked to Moscow’s chemical and biological weapons programs. These sanctions involve freezing assets in the US and prohibiting American companies from doing business with them. The American State Department has accused Russia of continued disregard for its obligations under the Chemical Weapons Convention, comparing its actions on the front lines to poisoning incidents involving Navalny and Skripals with Novichok nerve agent.

The use of chemical warfare agents and tear gas by Russian troops raises concerns about human rights violations and international law. The Chemical Weapons Convention prohibits the use of such agents for military purposes due to their potential harm to both soldiers and civilians alike.

As tensions between Ukraine and Russia continue to escalate, it remains unclear when or if these sanctions will be lifted or if there will be any further retaliation against Moscow’s alleged use of chemical weapons on Ukrainian soil.

However one thing is clear: The United States will not tolerate any violation of international law or human rights standards in conflicts around the world. It will continue to impose strong consequences on countries that engage in such behavior.

In conclusion, Russian troops are reportedly using chemical warfare agents and tear gas to force Ukrainians from their positions leading to new sanctions imposed by the United States against Moscow. The effects of these agents include a burning sensation in the eyes, nose
