The Russian advancement beyond Avdiivka is growing

Russian Breakthrough Expands Territorial Gains, Prompting Ukrainian Retreat on the Eastern Front: Challenging Times Ahead for Ukraine’s Defense Forces

In the past week, Russian forces made a significant breakthrough on the front northwest of Avdiywka that has expanded their territorial gains. After advancing from the town of Otscheretyne, they were able to capture Novobachmutivka. While these towns may seem small, this could mark the beginning of a broader advance by the Russian military. The Ukrainian defense line south of Novobachmutivka is currently collapsing, prompting the Ukrainian armed forces to potentially move another ten kilometers west to form a new defensive line on the Vovcha River.

Russian troops are also advancing north and northwest of Otscheretyne, gaining manageable terrain. These gains could have a significant impact, similar to past captures that led to further advances. The 115th Mechanized Brigade of Ukraine is being blamed for the Russian breakthrough, citing lack of fresh forces, artillery ammunition, and defensive systems as contributing factors. Russian FAB bombs equipped with navigation systems have been causing damage to Ukrainian positions.

With the Russian breakthrough, pressure is mounting on the Ukrainian armed forces to complete a larger defense line that is under construction. A major Russian offensive is expected in the coming weeks, with units near the front west of Avdiywka. The 47th Mechanized Brigade is heavily involved in defending this sector, facing challenges from Russian drone technology and armored units.

The Supreme Commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces has acknowledged a significant deterioration in the situation on the Eastern Front. Military intelligence predicts a further deterioration in the near future. This outlook suggests a challenging period ahead for Ukrainian forces as they combat Russian advances and technological capabilities.
