Rue21 Declares Bankruptcy and Announces Plan to Shutter All Store Locations

Rue21, Facing Third Bankruptcy Filing, to Close All Stores in Louisiana

Rue21, a national teen clothing retailer with two stores in Lafayette, is set to close all its locations as part of its Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing. The company, which operates 16 stores in Louisiana, filed for bankruptcy for the third time on Thursday. According to Bloomberg, Rue21 reported assets and liabilities between $100 million and $500 million.

The retailer, which is majority owned by private credit investment firm Blue Torch Capital, will also sell its brand and hold going-out-of-business sales in the near future. Currently, Rue21 has a store in the Acadiana Mall and the Stirling Lafayette shopping center.
