Newman Regional Health Marks Milestone with 300th Procedure Using Da Vinci Robotic Arm

Robotic Surgery Arm Celebrates 300th Procedure: Enhancing Precision and Outcomes in Emporia

Newman Regional Health recently celebrated a significant milestone with its robotic surgery arm, the da Vinci Robot-Assisted Surgical System, reaching its 300th procedure. Dr. Bradon Bitter, a surgeon who has worked with the system since its installation in June 2022, expressed his excitement at having such advanced technology available in Emporia.

The da Vinci system was installed following approval from the Board of Trustees in December 2021 and has quickly become an essential tool for surgeons at the hospital. Surgeons are able to utilize a control system that eliminates tremors while performing procedures, enhancing precision. The system features high-tech surgical arms with robotic wrists that allow for 360-degree movement and a three-dimensional high-definition monitor with up to 10-power magnification, providing surgeons with an optimal field of vision.

Dr. Tim Harris, the surgeon responsible for both the first and 300th procedures, shared his numerous benefits of the system. He noted that it has revolutionized the way these procedures are performed, offering enhanced precision and outcomes for patients. Currently, the da Vinci system is being used for a variety of surgeries, including general surgery, gall bladder removal, hernia repair, prostate surgery, hysterectomies, gynecological procedures
