Calcasieu School Board Introduces Mobile “Makerspace” Bus for Technology Education

Revolutionizing Education: The Launch of Calcasieu Parish’s Tech-Savvy Mobile Makerspace Bus

In Louisiana, the Calcasieu Parish has recently launched a tech-savvy initiative known as the Mobile Makerspace bus. This innovative program is designed to provide students with access to the latest technology tools in a “makerspace” environment where they can explore and share high-tech learning resources.

At Oak Park Middle School, students are using iPads and coding language to program robots to follow specific routes, making learning an engaging and fun experience. The Chief Technology Officer for the Calcasieu School Board, Kim LeBlanc, explains that the makerspace bus allows students to develop critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, and collaboration skills by collaborating with teachers on activities like programming drones for package delivery.

Inside the bus, students can experience a wide range of technologies such as 3D printing, artificial intelligence, and virtual reality. For example, Ca’leaa Simien is using augmented reality to create digital art on an iPad while showcasing her creativity and technological skills. The Mobile Makerspace bus is now available for teachers to book for their students, allowing them to enjoy a unique learning opportunity without leaving the schoolgrounds.
