Reviving Health: A Colorful Community Fair Blends Tradition, Wellness and Fun in Allen Parish
The Allen Parish Community Health Fair at the Grand Church in Kinder was a lively event with an ’80s theme. More than 30 vendors offered informative booths on wellness and healthy living, health screenings, freebies and food trucks.
During the fair, Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana Chairman Jonathan Cernek served traditional Coushatta dish of chawahka (corn soup) to Richard Stokes of Kinder. Attendees had the opportunity to learn more about their health and the services available in the community, including healthcare and healthy lifestyle options.
Gerald Romero from Kinder received vaccination information from Ashlyn Fontonet and Brianna England, who were dressed in ’80s-themed attire to match the theme of the health and wellness fair. Amber Ashworth, Southwest Louisiana Regional Safety Coalition Coordinator, provided tips for safe driving to Brenda Johnson from Kinder during the fair.
Phlebotomist Devan Fruge of Allen Parish Community Healthcare conducted bloodwork to screen Phyllis Lawrence from Kinder for diabetes and prediabetes during the event. The fair featured an array of informational booths on wellness and healthy living, health screenings, a Lunch and Learn session, freebies and food trucks.
